South Shore Meats Recall Follows Camp Bournedale E coli

thumbnail_grinder_w_beefThe Centers for Disease Control has associated a finding of E. coli O157:H7 in leftover ground beef from a hamburger meal at Camp Bournedale in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with the Lincoln Middle School E. coli outbreak.

The confirmation of E. coli O157:H7 was made by the Massachusetts Department of Public Healthand has prompted a recall of 1,039 pounds of fresh ground beef patties and tenderized beef cuts produced October 8 by South Shore Meats Inc. of  Brockton, Massachusetts. See recall list at bottom.

The school trip to Bournedale by Lincoln Rhode Island sixth graders and their chaperones occurred October 13-16. The Boston Globe is reporting that more than 20 individuals from the group suffered diarrheal illness, including at least two who were hospitalized.

National food safety law firm Pritzker Olsen Attorneys president and founder Fred Pritzker calls on Camp Bournedale and South Shore Meats to immediately pay all medical expenses, lost wages of parents and other direct costs incurred by the victims of this outbreak, including a refund of all fees paid by the sixth-grade class to attend Camp Bournedale. The camp accommodates up to 300 school children at a time and has been in business for more than 70 years.

This outbreak was preventable and victims have special rights because the U.S. government bans E. coli O157:H7 in ground beef.  Pritzker Olsen is accepting cases from the Lincoln school E. colioutbreak and is currently representing victims of E. coli O157:H7 and HUS, a life-threatening complication that develops after the diarrhea phase in more than 5 percent ofE. coli infections.
