This is why I haven't tried raw milk. I've read about the benefits of raw milk over pasteurized milk, but to me, it isn't worth the risk. You never know how it may have been mishandled, and it doesn't keep very long at all.

I say, if you want raw dairy, buy raw cheese instead. Avoid all milk altogether if you don't like pasteurized dairy products.

I think you can get raw butter that's good too.

This is pretty scary. I also ready today that e-coli was found in fast food ice, and that the toilet water in their facilities were actually cleaner than the ice. ICK!

Annette, I am sorry to hear that you lost someone from E. coli. Knowing how many people die from this preventable illness each year, it is often quite painful writing about it.

I mentioned the animal fair because it was mentioned by the family of one of the boys that was sickened and most people do not realize that children are at risk at animal fairs. It is important for adults to make sure children wash their hands after being near animals. I should have mentioned that in the article, and I will add it. I will also put more prevention information in my articles. Thank you.

Pritzker Olsen law firm has pages of information on its two E. coli blogs, food poisoning blog and website (www.pritzkerlaw.com) regarding food safety, recalls, outbreaks and research. We also are involved with STOP (Safe Tables Our Priority: www.safetables.org) and work for legislative changes in our food safety system. One of our clients recently appeared before Congress. We also work with state and local health departments when appropriate.

Because E. coli is preventable, we have focused our efforts on prevention. We welcome further comments on how our law firm can promote food safety and be an advocate for E. coli victims and their families.

After experiencing in a death in our family from e-coli I have to say I am glad you make this topic public and get people's attention. I do have a couple of concerns or questions. Why do you state that the e-coli may have been caused by visiting cows at the Fair? The health department states that the investigation is not completed.
Secondly, I wish that those that represent families in litigation would also work together to promote more public awareness campaigns on how to protect ourselves from contacting this and the need for further research for ways to medically treat those who become ill.
