Nebraska Beef Recall
In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Nebraska Beef, Ltd., of Omaha, Nebraska, issued a recall of 5.3 million pounds of ground beef components because of possible contamination with E. coli O157:H7. States where the recalled beef was shipped to includes at least the following states: Nebraska, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. Nebraska Beef is a supplier of Kroger supermarkets. E. coli O157:H7 outbreaks in Michigan and Ohio have been linked to Kroger stores and specifically meat supplied by Nebraksa Beef. For more information on the outbreaks in Michigan and Ohio, click here.
Recently, Nebraska Beef has also been associated with a recent E. coli outbreak in Georgia that has left at least 12 ill, four of whom have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. The restaurant where all the vicitims used beef supplied by Nebraska Beef. Health department officials in Georgia are investigating the outbreak further to confirm the association.
