Nebraska E. coli Outbreak
Nine people have tested positive for E. coli in Nebraska. According to KPTM news of Omaha, Neb., a York health official said that at least 5 of the illnesses may be related to food served at an unspecified community event. The first case was reported on July 22.
State epidemiologist Tom Safranek told the Fremont Tribune that 3 of the cases were in the same home, and a forth victim was in contact with the sickened family.
Nebraska Beef, Ltd., a supplier whose ground beef has led to a multi-state outbreak that has sickened dozens, has been ruled out a source of this outbreak.
The symptoms of an E. coli infection include abdominal pain, low grade fever, and diarrhea (may be bloody).
